5 Reasons Why You Should Switch from Curtains to Blinds for Your Kitchen Windows

Getting the right covering for your kitchen window is difficult. This is because, more times than not, the kitchen sink is directly above the kitchen window and this poses a slight problem. The covering of the window should have some attributes that make it safe from water damage. Here are top reasons why you should consider using blinds for your kitchen windows.

Blinds are retractable

You may argue that you can easily fold a curtain to get out of the way, but folding fabric curtains creates lines of weakness which may eventually lead to tearing. Blinds on the other hand, whether venetian blinds or roller blinds, have an inbuilt mechanism that allows retraction. When you need to get the covering out of the way, you simply pull it up, and back down when you are done, without any possibility of harm.

Blinds come in one piece

Most curtains, will require accompanying shears for privacy purposes and control of light. The disadvantage of curtains is that once you draw them back, the whole window is exposes, allowing outsiders to see everything that is going on in your house. Venetian blinds on the other hand, have the option of being fully retracted, or open while still covering the window. The light makes way into the room through the spaces created without compromising your privacy.

Easy to clean

While curtains require you to remove them from the curtain box, wash them and put them back, blinds can be cleaned while still attached to the window. Both venetian blinds and roller blinds have spaces between their slacks, with the latter being water proof. This allows you to use a sponge or cloth to wipe them clean. You do not have to wait for them to dry as they do not get soaked in the first place.

Stain proof

Compared to fabric curtains, venetian blinds do not easily stain. If a coloured liquid was to spill on them, you will only have to wipe it off. However for fabric curtains, you may need to bleach them or use special chemicals before the stain is finally out.

Simplicity

Fabric curtains raise the need for colour, patterns and change. You can easily get bored having the same curtain hanging all through the month or year. You will therefore need a variety of curtains which you can interchange in order to kill the monotony. With venetian blinds, they become part of the window. You do not have to worry about diversifying because in essence all blinds are the same. This does not mean you cannot get colourful and radiant blinds, however.
